Taklimat Janakuasa Arang Batu - SESB HQ

I was at the recent SESB Open Day (17 July 2010) to attend the briefing on the implementation of the proposed coal-fired power plant in Lahad Datu. It was a half day "Taklimat Perlaksanaan Projek Penjanaan kuasa Arang Batu" held to brief the public (upon invitation) on the measures taken by SESB to mitigate ill effect of this particular method of generating power.

We were shown video clips of interviews, studies of the environment at the vicinity of the other coal-fired power plants in West Malaysia and Sarawak. Of course this was done by TNB or SESB, and or consultants in favour of this project. EIA report was not discussed but as i understand it, the report would be further deliberated very soon. On who will attend it, is still a question mark.

Will write more on the current generating capacity of coal-fired plants in Malaysia a little bit later.

What was missing was that there were no external parties making comments or presenting findings/concerns during the open day. Or, should SESB have invited one or two? Or, would they do that, can they do that? I really wanted to hear a second opinion. Maybe opinion from the folks staying nearby, interviews done by a non-interested party.

Nonetheless, it was an eye opener as I was like more open to opinion from both camps of 'for and against' now. I wouldn't shut my ear to the government's intention whilst listening to the concern of others.

For those who attended it, what's your take on this (the setting up of such power plant)? I'd say stay green, but is such project really the biggest culprit to the preceived hazards?/ accident waiting to happen?

Be in the know and judge for yourself.

UNDUK NGADAU 2010

Hate to say this but that's the reality: This is toooooo late an update for event that happened in May 2010. Okay maybe not an 'update' but rather 'late submission'; anyway it's for the sake of record. For future reference if you like.

Unduk Ngadau 2010, Miss Crystal Eve Huminodun (middle) is flanked by 1st runner up Miss Rochelle Fayrenie (left) and 2nd runner up Miss Lydia John Alai (right)

Date: 31st May 2010
Venue: Hongkod Koisaan, KDCA, Penampang Sabah
Time: 12.30 Noon onwards (winners announced - 5.30pm)
Venue accessibility: 1 (from a scale of 1 to 10), that's pretty bad!
Attendance: full mark! Congested and packed to say the least. So that's 10 out of 10.

Happy Teacher's Day

Happy teachers day to all teachers at SMK Sanzac, Kota Kinabalu. Wishing all of your are doing great. It's such a blessing to be doing noble job as teacher.

So, I googled for my ex-school official website and felt a bit disappointed and sad at the same time as it is "still under construction" after many years. The school has gone thru a lot of transformation physical-wise. Nice landscape and beautiful paintworks.

I'm positive that there are people within, that are IT-savvy and are more than capable of putting things in order. Ex-students, such as myself, only have this (website) to interact with their previous school, so, come on guys! Make it happen!

A bit of search and these are the nearest i could get:

Official website - (under construction)
Sanzac on FB?

Better and More info here (but last updated in 2006?)
Cleanly done and nice browsing navigation. If this is still up to date then I still know some of the academic staff, like Pn Goy Siew Kee who taught me Chemistry (not on the favourite subject list of many students, but I like it. It was challenging and interesting), and Pn Hayati Mahmud.

Appreciation and fondly remembered:
Mr Chuah Chong Leng
Pn Goy Siew Kee
Pn Syarifah Mariatun Syed Harun
En Zulkifli
Pn Ranjeet Kaur
En Mokhtar
En Sinin

Happy Teacher's Day

Why I hate The iPhone

.

** Snapshot of Windows Explorer view of the iPhone **

Note the inability to explore Folders and it is not possible to drag-and-drop files. All you see is a single folder containing images taken with the 3MP of camera.

iPhone has been the 'in thing' for much of 2009 and it must've been such a great pride to own one. It has been the pace setter on many fronts and it still is today albeit few 'iPhone killers' appearing one after another.

Why I hate the iPhone? Well, not literlly but that was out of some frustration after using it for sometime. It was rather meant to be 'my wishlist for iPhone' functionality.

Here is why:

1) First and foremost is the iPhone's Storage Connectivity. I can't connect my iPhone to my Laptop/PC and drag-and-drop files onto. Unlike my wife's Samsung Omnia which operates on Windows Mobile.
.2) Data handling. I hope I can save text messages on my iPhone. Should be able to archive an entire thread. I dont want just a copy-and-past enabled gadget that's so expensive. MOre than that please....
.
3)Camera is nothing to shout about. The 3MP camera needs more work to improve. It is too slugish and lagging behind in today's competition.
.
I have a dedicated Compact Camera and DSLR, so i'm not too concerned about the phone cam. But what about storage connectivity? This alone left me wishing for something other than an iPhone.
.
So, dear iPhone, on your next upgrade please open up a bit to the outside world and be friendly to others.

Sunrise

While sunsets are people's favourite, sunrise too present photographers with many great views. On hazy days, sunrise can be mistaken for sunset due to the temperature of the shot - it can be 'warm'.

Sunrise overlooking Mt Kinabalu. Only lazy crap like me shot sunrise this late

On clear and good weather, sunrise presents very cooling anf refreshing views and one can see the panorama very clearly.
