This Fishing Competition is organised by one of the water operators in the state and this is the second similar competition in 2 years.

SYARAT - SYARAT PERTANDINGAN (RULES AND REGULATIONS)
The followings are the rules and regulation of the competition in Bahasa Malaysia. Have fun reading!

1. Yuran penyertaan sebanyak RM40.00 untuk joran pertama. Manakala untuk joran berikutnya sebanyak RM15.00 sebatang dan terhad kepada dua batang joran sahaja.
2. Peserta mestilah berumur 12 tahun ke atas.
3. Peserta hanya dibenarkan mendaftar atas satu nama sahaja.
4. Pertandingan akan berlangsung selama 5 ½ jam (bermula dari jam 09.00 pagi hingga jam 2.30 petang). Peserta diwajibkan menghabiskan tempoh masa yang telah ditetapkan dan mana-mana peserta yang balik awal akan dibatalkan kesemua hasil tangkapannya.
5. Yuran penyertaan tidak akan dikembalikan terhadap mana-mana peserta ingin menarik diri pada hari pertandingan.
6. Kejuaraan akan ditentukan berdasarkan kepada berat tangkapan ikan dan juga masa tangkapan. Sekiranya terdapat persamaan dari segi berat tangkapan ikan, maka masa tangkapan yang tercepat akan diambilkira sebagai pemenang.
7. HANYA pancing yang mempunyai penanda sah daripada pihak penganjur sahaja yang akan diambilkira tangkapannya.
8. Adalah ditegaskan bahawa penggunaan mata kail bermata tiga dan juga ambor (Hand Line) adalah tidak dibenarkan sama sekali.
9. Peserta boleh memenangi lebih daripada satu kategori hadiah yang dipertandingkan sekiranya tangkapan berat ikan yang seterusnya adalah layak.
10. Pilihan umpan adalah bebas dan perlu disediakan sendiri oleh semua peserta.
11. Pilihan tempat memancing adalah bebas tetapi mestilah di dalam kawasan yang telah ditetapkan oleh pihak penganjur pertandingan.
12. Peserta dikehendaki terus mengemukakan tangkapan ikan ke meja pengadil untuk ditimbang sebaik sahaja tangkapan dibuat. Semua tangkapan mestilah masih hidup dan tidak dibuka daripada mata kail semasa mengemukakannya.
13. Hanya ikan yang ditangkap menggunakan pancing sahaja yang akan diambilkira. Kaedah mencandat (mata kail menyangkut pada badan ikan) adalah tidak dibenarkan.
14. IKAN BUNTAL, IKAN LANGUT LANGUT, SESIRAT, BELANGKAS dan BELACAK adalah tidak diambil kira di dalam pertandingan ini.
15. Peserta tidak dibenarkan untuk memberi atau menerima sebarang hasil tangkapan ikan daripada mana-mana peserta lain termasuk bertukar joran pancing. Jika diketahui, penyertaan kedua-dua peserta yang terlibat akan dibatalkan.
16. Penggunaan perahu / pelampung untuk tujuan memancing di kawasan air dalam adalah tidak dibenarkan.
17. Sebarang bantahan boleh dibuat dengan menyertakan bayaran sebanyak RM100.00 di meja urusetia pertandingan. Keputusan pihak penganjur adalah muktamad dan wang tidak akan dikembalikan. Sebarang bantahan yang tidak disertakan dengan bayaran tidak akan dilayan.
18. Pihak penganjur berhak untuk membatalkan dan seterusnya menarik balik hadiah kemenangan sekiranya mendapati wujudnya sebarang bentuk penipuan oleh mana-mana peserta pertandingan.
19. Semua peserta perlu memberi kerjasama dalam menjaga kebersihan pantai dengan tidak membuang sampah secara merata-rata. Pihak penganjur akan menyediakan plastic sampah.
20. Peserta yang ingin menuntut hasil tangkapan ikan bolehlah berbuat demikian selepas acara pertandingan ini selesai.
21. Pihak penganjur berhak menunda tarikh pertandingan sekiranya terdapat sebarang kesulitan yang tidak dapat dielakkan.

RM100,000 prize awaits KDM Malaysia Idol champ

Great news for the local entertainers!

A whopping cash prize of RM100,000 awaits the winner in the KDM Malaysia Idol 2013 singing competition starting this weekend.

Organized by non-governmental organisation, KDM Malaysia, the event is offering a total prize money of RM235,000 apart from a car for the viewer who sends the most SMS. KDM Malaysia Idol will start its audition in Kampung Kokol, Menggatal on January 19, 2013 and will be continued in 9 other locations throughout the State.

What                       : 5-month long reality tv programme, expected to end in May 2013
Who can take part : Open to all Malaysians between the age of 15 and 45
How to take part    : Purchase a Celcom SIM pack worth RM18.50 at the registration for audition
Pre-requisite          : Able to sing in Kadazan, Dusun and Murut languages
Also allowed          : Amateur singers, artistes who have already produced albums including those
                                  who have won in singing competitions previously

The programme would be aired on television, a station to be decided later.

The audition sessions will see a judging panel, headed by Asmin Mudin, to select 50 participants. Through elimination process, 12 best participants wil be selected for a weekly concert. Four participants would be further eliminated in 4 weeks and the remaining 8 would go to the final.

The selected participants would be assembled at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for 6 weeks and given exposure not only in singing but also other aspects such as economy, environment, culture, global issues and politics.

Further information:

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister, Raja Nong Chik encouraged residents associations to participate in the BFTE. "We are expecting 5,000 participants and we also hope to see residents associations taking part in this competition. We want them to express their love and support for their neighbourhood and state."

Participants must also promote their entries on Facebook and Twitter to garner as many "Like" and "Retweet" responses as possible, which will determine the winner. This year, the BFTE is divided into two categories -- individual participation and the participation from associations. The first prize for each category is RM15,000, followed by RM10,000 for second place and RM5,000 for third place.

All entries will be judged by bloggers, corporate figures, representatives of various print and online media organisations, officers from the Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry, City Hall, Putrajaya Corporation and Labuan Corporation. Entries must be sent to blogforft.com and participants will be able to view their postings on the website.

I saw this banner on Fishing Competition organised by one of the water operators in the state and I thought I should share it here for the benefit of all kaki pancing, hobbyists, and everyone who want to spend their weekend throwing rods for fun. Perhaps go home with some consolation.

Sand castle building contest

If you have no plan yet during the Public Holiday on Malaysia Day, why not make a trip to Tawau.

The 14th edition of the sand castle building competition will be held at the Batu Payung beach in Tawau this September 16. I gathered this from a press release in the DE.

The programme, in conjunction with Malaysia Day, is organised by the Hokkien Association of Tawau (Pemuda) in collaboration with the Tawau Municipal Council.

According to Pemuda President, Kong Wei San, the competition will begin at 8.30am and is scheduled to be launched by Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan who has contributed RM1,000 to support the programme.

The competition will be divided into three categories, namely:

Category A: Open
Category B: Association group
Category C: School student

So, the date to remember is (would love to be there if it were to be held near me):

Sandakan Sculpture Competition 2012

It's good time to be creative! By April this year - and this is no April-fool joke - you could be RM18,000 richer.

Harbour Mall Sandakan is inviting all Malaysians - school students, undergraduates from design and art discipline from government or private universities and colleges, and individuals - to submit their design of an iconic sculpture that will best represent Sandakan to the world.

WHO CAN ENTER Contestants for the Sandakan Sculpture Competition 2012 must be Malaysian citizens. Only ONE entry per person will be accepted. PRIZES • 1st Prize : RM18,000 cash • 2nd Prize : RM5,000 cash • 3rd Prize : RM3,000 cash • 5 X Consolation Prizes : 3D 2N stay at Four Points by Sheraton, Sandakan SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES Contestants must submit an Official Entry Form and ONE idea (in 2D or 3D sketches, plans, sections, elevation or perspectives; 3D modelling with photo submission; etc) that best illustrates their design intent. ABOUT SANDAKAN To give you a little bit of a head-start, here is an excerpt about Sandakan from a website www.ss.my: Sandakan is the second-largest city in Sabah, East Malaysia, on the north-eastern coast of Borneo. It is located on the east coast of the island and it is the administrative centre of Sandakan Division and was the former capital of British North Borneo. Sandakan is known as the gateway for ecotourism destinations in Sabah, such as the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, the Rainforest Discovery Centre, Turtle Islands Park, Kinabatangan River and Gomantong Caves The area is also infamous as the site of a World War II Japanese airfield, built by the forced labour of 6,000 Javanese civilians and Allied prisoners of war. In 1945, the surviving Australian prisoners were sent on the Sandakan Death Marches; only 6 of them survived the war. During the early 1870s, the east coast of Sabah was under control of the Sultan of Sulu, who also ruled what is now the southern Philippines. The first European settlement in the area was founded by William Clarke Cowie, a Scottish gun smuggler from Glasgow, who received permission from the Sultan to establish a small trading base. Cowie called his settlement Sandakan, which in Tausug (Sulu) means "the place that was pawned", but it soon came to be known as "Kampung German" after the large number of Germans who also set up posts there. The Japanese occupation of Sandakan during World War II began on 19 January 1942 and lasted until a brigade of the Australian 9th Division liberated it on 19 October 1945. The Japanese administration restored the name Elopura for the town. One of the atrocities of World War II was the Sandakan Death Marches, when Japanese soldiers decided to move about 2,400 prisoners of war in Sandakan 260 km (160 miles) inland to the town of Ranau. The prisoners who did not die en route to Ranau were crammed into unsanitary huts; most of those survivors either died from dysentery or were killed by prison guards. When the war ended, Sandakan was totally destroyed, partly from the Allied bombings and partly by the Japanese. I visit Jabatan Air Sabah website from time to time and as I saw this, I thought the netizens, especially those with cameras might be interested to take part. OBJECTIVES

International World Water Day is held annually on 22nd March as a means of focusing the world’s attention towards the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

The world is already burdened with chronic hunger and water resources are under pressure with population surge. At all steps of the supply chain, from producers to consumers, actions can be taken to save water and ensure nutritious food for all.

As the saying ‘picture speaks a thousand words’, the Organising Committee hopes this photography competition shall create awareness on the importance of efficient consumption and sustainability of water and freshwater in ensuring sufficient supply of nutritious food to meet dietary needs.

WHAT IS YOUR ENGINEERING STORY?

This is an initiative by IEM (Sabah) to spice up this year's IEM annual dinner by making "Your Engineering Story" part of the event.

I wanted to append the full PDF brochure but it's not hyperlinked. Here is how you are going to do it:

This competition is called "My Engineering Story" and the chosen stories will be published in the IEM Sabah website and printed in the annual dinner souvenir book.

Objective: To collect amazing, inspiring real life stories and hence, motivate more people to love engineering. To provide a platform to all engineers to share their passion towards their living and loving in engineering. [Note: These are words from IEM. Interpret at your own pleasure.]

Simple rules:
1) The competition is divided into two categories, i.e. a) Students, and b) Engineers,
2) Three (3) winners will be selected from each category,
3) Each of the winners will receive RM500 cash.

Include the followings in your submission:
1) Full name, field of engineering, company name, phone number, and email address
2) Your "My Engineering Story" in word file.
3) Your story must be within 400 to 500 words.
4) Your photo or photo related to your story.
