Happy Malaysia Day (Selamat Hari Malaysia 2013)

The Malaysia Day celebration is special this year. The peak of the celebration took place simultaneously in Kuching, Sarawak and Tanjung Aru in Sabah, beginning 15th September.

The 50th celebration was launched by Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah at Kuching Waterfront on a wet evening.

Happy Malaysia Day

Happy Malaysia Day to all citizens of Malaysia.

Today (16 September 2012) is a celebration that marks the formation of the Malaysian federation on 16-09-1963, whereby Malaya, North Borneo (renamed Sabah), Sarawak, and Singapore joined together to form Malaysia.

There are two significant dates for Sarawak and Sabah prior to the formation of Malaysia:
  1. Sarawak gained its transitional administration from Britain on July 22, 1963,
  2. North Borneo (Sabah) began its transitional administration from the Britain on August 31, 1963

During this year's Malaysia Day celebration, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak called for a stop to debate over Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day, saying both the dates were meaningful and important in the country’s history. Quite rightly so, and it should be taken in good faith.

This year's celebration was in Bintulu, Sarawak.

Sand castle building contest

If you have no plan yet during the Public Holiday on Malaysia Day, why not make a trip to Tawau.

The 14th edition of the sand castle building competition will be held at the Batu Payung beach in Tawau this September 16. I gathered this from a press release in the DE.

The programme, in conjunction with Malaysia Day, is organised by the Hokkien Association of Tawau (Pemuda) in collaboration with the Tawau Municipal Council.

According to Pemuda President, Kong Wei San, the competition will begin at 8.30am and is scheduled to be launched by Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan who has contributed RM1,000 to support the programme.

The competition will be divided into three categories, namely:

Category A: Open
Category B: Association group
Category C: School student

So, the date to remember is (would love to be there if it were to be held near me):

September 16, 2012
Time     : 8.30am
Venue  : Batu Payung beach, Tawau Sabah

BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!
