Good bye Moyes, move on Manchester United

It's now official - David Moyes is sacked by Manchester United.

I could see it was coming for sometime now as rumours has been circulating - his days at Old Trafford was numbered. It's sad to see him go but I believe the timing is perfect - United has 4 more games to cool down before the end of a torrid season.

For the players, they could do themselves a bit of favour in earning some respect by winning the remaining games. The paying fans deserve it!

My collection: Been a United fan for some time now.

Was it right to give him the sack?

They did this a lot of time at other Premier League clubs but sacking a manager 10 months into a job is not the United way.

But while some may disagree, I will sit on the other side and say that sacking him was a no brainer.

Failing to qualify for the prestigious Champions League for the first time since 1995, losing in all 3 domestic competitions, failed miserably in his attempts to sign top players, and worse of all losing big to the club he previously managed. Losing to Everton means that someone is doing a better job than he did during his days at Goodison Park, and that he fared poorly at Old Trafford.

What this also mean is that the board was left with little option but to cut their losses.

Moyes's last game in charge was a 2-0 loss at his former club Everton, which confirmed that United would not compete in the Champions League next season. It was a pain watching that game; United moved the ball very slowly and when approaching the opponent penalty box, they lacked creativity. They were vulnerable to counter attacks and the defense was in disarray numerous times. It was sooo not United!

Start afresh

People say when you are at rock bottom there is only one way: Up!

Let's start afresh and bring back the glory to Old Trafford. This is one of the biggest clubs with great tradition and it takes some beating to write them of completely.

Alex Ferguson is a big gap to fill but there are many coaches out there who can do great jobs. GLORY GLORY MAN. UNITED!

TheGreenMechanics: Goodbye David Moyes. In Malaysia we say 'Selamat jalan Moyes'.

Manchester United are Champions - won 20th Premier League Title

Manchester United are champions yet again!

Manchester United won their 20th title on Monday night (early morning Malaysian time) after beating Aston Villa 3-0, thanks to a Robin van Persie hattrick.

United won 20th title
Earlier on Sunday, Manchester City lost to a spirited performance by Spurs, meaning United's 16 point advantage is now unassailable.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a joy to watch in anticipation.

The thing about United is that, every time they lose grip on the trophy to their rivals, they bounce back quickly in the next campaign.

United won 20th title
If you missed the match, this is Robin van Persie's wonder goal against Aston Villa, one that is worthy of a goal of the season.

A stunning strike by the Dutchman - even if you are not a United fan, this is one that is worth watching.

Result: Manchester United vs Reading (1 - 0)

After a disastrous defeat of Manchester City at Everton earlier today, Manchester United can take a huge step towards winning their 20th trophy of the English Premier League by beating managerless Reading.

If they can overcome Reading they'll have 15 points cushion at the top of the table with 9 games remaining.

Old Trafford, 16th March 2013. City said United will make mistake; we'll see about that.

It's interesting to note that M.City are very confident that they will catch United up and beat them at the end of the season just as they did last year. That's according to City defender, Gael Clichy.

Last season: City trailing United by 8 points with 8 games to play
This season: City trailing United by 12 points with 10 games left

Mathematically, the situation is similar but United surely won't allow a repeat of their failure to hold on to a healthy lead this time around.

First half result: MU ( 1 ) - ( 0 ) Reading

21st minute goal by Rooney set United on course. What a lovely run by Ferdinand who then set Rooney to fire home from outside the box.

Full Time result: MU ( 1 ) - ( 0 ) Reading

In the end, solitary goal by Wayne Rooney proved to be the difference. Not a fluent performance by United but a win is a win and they go 15 points clear at the top of the Barclays Table.

Watch out, "noisy neighbours"!

FA Cup semi-final result: Manchester United vs Chelsea

After crashing out of the prestigious European Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid, Manchester United is facing another strenuous test today in the FA Cup against Chelsea.

Chicarito scored the first goal for United. Yes!!

Date    : 11-03-2013
Time   : 12.30am Malaysia time
Venue: Old Trafford

To make matter more interesting, Chelsea defender David Luis was quoted as saying "we would rub salt to United's wound", referring to United's exit of the European League.

First Half result: MU ( 2 ) - ( 0 ) Chelsea

Hernandez header went past both Cech and Cahill, brilliant work by the Mexican forward. Second goal was a Rooney free kick and Luis himself failed to deal with the pace of the ball. Rooney's free kick went straight into the back of the net.

Great stuff!

Full Time result: MU ( 2 ) - ( 2 ) Chelsea

Goals from Hazard and Ramires put Chelsea level. It is all square at Old Trafford. There will be playoff at Stamford Bridge to determine who go into the final.

Winners of the United/Chelsea tie will face Manchester City in the semi-final.

English Premier League - midweek results

All the big guns played on Wednesday evening (Thursday morning Malaysia time) except for Manchester City who were held to a 0 - 0 draw at Queen Park Rangers a day earlier.

Great chance for Manchester United to stretch their lead at the top to 7 points.

Results of interest:

QPR vs Manchester City                    : 0 - 0
Manchester United vs Southampton  : 2 - 1
Arsenal vs Liverpool                           : 2 - 2
Reading vs Chelsea                           : 2 - 2

A nervy second half for United at Old Trafford but they held on to a 2 - 1 win and indeed it is a 7-point gap now with nearest contenders, City. Except  for United, all other top clubs dropped points this week.

All in all, a very good week for United after the stalemate at Spurs last week. A 4 - 1 win on Fulham in the FA cup earlier, followed by this win put smiles on the manager's face. And mine.

Way to go Rooney, and United!

No more stupid Europe errors: Sir Alex Ferguson

The UEFA Champions League draw was made yesterday (Thursday) in Monaco, and as usual many still think that the draw was fixed. What a cry baby. It was shown LIVE on TV and you can see the person mixing the balls around randomly before picking one of the them without being able to have a glance. So, just leave the probability law do the job, shall we.

Controversy aside, let's look at the draw results:

English teams Manchester United and Arsenal got pretty straight forward draws while it's a tricky one for depending champions, Chelsea with Juventus in the same group. High spending Manchester City is in the "group of death" together with Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax.

Real Madrid will start their campaign on September  18, 2012

Manchester United and Barcelona to start their first matches on September 19, 2012

No more "stupid errors" for Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly (ESPN) told his Manchester United players they cannot afford to make the "stupid errors" they committed in during the group stage of the prestigious UEFA Champions League last season.

With the relatively easy CL group, United should qualify for the knockout stages of the competition with ease. They just need to remind themselves of the poor home display last season to drive them to perform better this time around.

Come on! No more soft goals and lapses in defense. With the addition of another world class striker in Robin van Persie, United's arsenal should have more than enough armour and bullets.

GO UNITED!

Note: Manchester United's first game is against Galatasaray at Old Trafford on 19/09/2012.

Intriguing English Premier League Finale

For so many years now the top flight football in England could be decided by goal difference. Both Manchester clubs are tied at 86 points with City having the advantage of superior goal difference.

EPL table after Day 37

On this final game of the season, Manchester United is away at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland while Manchester City it at home to Queen Park Rangers (QPR). QPR is fighting to avoid relegation, so, there's everything to fight for.

If both Manchester United and Manchester City win today, City will be crowned Champions for the first time in 44 years. As a strong United supporter, I really want this to by their 20th league cup - a new history in English football - but if they fail, I really think they lost it not today, but way back a couple of weeks ago when they threw away a 4-2 advantage at home to Everton. They ended 4-4 in that game.

Never say never. Like Sir Alex Ferguson said everything can happen in football including "stupid" result at Etihad Stadium.

Come on now United!

Day 32: It's all over?

Almost 2 weeks ago I posted about Manchester United's turning point when they overtook City for the first time after playing catch up for so long.

Still 7 games to play, Roberto Mancini has all but waved the white flag in the English Premier League title race after his Manchester City side went down 1-0 to Arsenal at The Emirates.

EPL Table after 32 games. There are 6 more games to play and 18 points up for grab..

With Manchester United beating Queens Park Rangers 2-0 at Old Trafford earlier at lunchtime, City fell 8 points behind their rivals and needed to win at Arsenal.

But they failed to react and fell to a stunning Mikel Arteta strike three minutes from time. They also had mercurial striker Mario Balotelli sent off shortly afterwards for a second bookable offense.

It looks increasingly likely that the title is staying at Old Trafford for a record 20th time.

What an achievement that would be. Go United!

Day 28, United go top!

After so many weeks of playing catch up with noisy neighbour Manchester City, defending champions Manchester United finally go on top on the 28th game. Both teams are now out of Europa League following their early exit from the prestigious UEFA Champions League.

English Premier League standings after 28 games. There are 10 more games left to play.

For United, the domestic league is the only hope for a silverware this season, trying to defend the titled they won last season. For city, this is the closest they have come to in an attempt to claim their first premier league title since 1967/68 season.

So, I'll mark Sunday, Mar 11, 2012 as the turning point for United to have turn things around for the better.

Manchester United beat West Bromwich 2 - 0
Manchester City lose to Swansea City 0 - 1
United go top with 67 points to City's 66 points.

Been there, done that, so many times. United visit Wolverhampton tomorrow and if they can get maximum points they'll be 4 points clear at the top. City play Chelsea in the mid-week and pressure will be on them if United win at Molineux Stadium.

Prediction for tomorrow's game: 2 - 0 to United.
So, come on you guys! Go! Go United!

Check out the other selected results from this week's fixtures (those that concerns the potential title contenders - M.United, M.City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspurs):

Week 5 BPL Result
All of the other teams in the "Big Five" dropped points except for United.

For my English speaking friends and readers, that sums up my excitement for a fantastic week for Manchester United FC and the fans from all over the world.

Untuk rakan-rakan peminat bolasepak di Malaysia, izinkan saya kelentong sikit a.k.a trip macam pengulas sukan terkemuka Haji Hasbullah Awang, hehe.

90 minit pertemuan United dengan Chelsea yang dijangka menyajikan persembahan menarik nampaknya akan diingati sebagai yang sebaliknya. Apa tidaknya, lihat saja fakta-fakta berikut:
  1. Rooney gagal menyempurnakan sepakan penalti
  2. Torres yang berdepan dengan gawang kosong memilih untuk menguis bola ke kiri (blunder of the season lah kiranya)

Come On UNITED.....all the way now!
